March of the (Physics) Volunteers
Report on 31st IYPT Beijing, China,
International Young Physicist Tournament is international competition consisting of 17 open research problems. From constructing simple seismograph, creating Curie Point Engine or manipulate the objects using Acoustic Levitation 32 teams (selected after winning in national finals) must prepare their solution to the problems. During Tournament fights they present solution to given problem in form of 12 minutes presentations. Solutions often include and require knowledge of advanced math, research in academic papers, academic level knowledge of given topic and advanced simulations. Experiments are conducted in self-build setups, and data analysis often is included. Next in number of Physics Fights a best team representing its home nation is selected.
Tournment 2018:
This year 31st edition of IYPT(http://iypt.org/Home) was held in Beijing – capital of China. Beijing is the third most populous city is global power city, and one of the world’s leading centers for politics, economy and business and, innovation and technology. From enormous skyscrapers in city center, futuristic buildings in Olympic village and prevailing Forbiden city, to the rooms in the Department of Physics at Renmin University of China, we had an opportunity to see China from different perspective.
